Gauteng Health Department has announced that some Mabopane and Soshanguve patients will need to go to other facilities.
Heavy rains that pounded parts of Tshwane overnight uprooted trees, and caused power interruptions.
The department reported that while no injuries had been reported, it was the result of the storm’s wind-driven rain that caused the roofs to collapse at the Odi District Hospital Mabopane as well as three other healthcare facilities.
The extent of damage in Odi is a collapsed roof in one section of hospital and leaking ceilings in other sections, leading to waterlogging in certain wards. The facility was also flooded in certain sections due to malfunctioning stormwater channels,” explained Motalatale Modiba, a spokesperson.

The health department could not predict when damage will be repaired as more rain is expected to fall in the capital by Wednesday afternoon.
